Your Gifts Can Make the Difference
Publishing in the United States
exceeding 80,000 volumes annually and electronic resources are rapidly
changing scholarly communication. The Hill Freeman Library and
Spruill Learning Center struggles to meet the demand for current,
reliable and high quality information. We
are slowly nearing our goal of 100,000 volumes by 2008, but we
still have a long way to go.
We are looking
to our trustees, alumni and friends to contribute to
the newly established Library Collection Enhancement Fund. The average costs for
college library resources are approaching $60 for a single book, $300 annually
for a single journal subscription and $1,500 for electronic media.
In addition, costs to furnish group study and other gathering space are
estimated to be $15,000-$20,000 per area. Naming opportunities for significant
spaces are also available. Each contribution, no matter how large or small,
directly reaches students and supports them in their quest for knowledge and
understanding.
Several participation levels are already available in the Library
Collection Enhancement Fund, and naming opportunities are still being developed.
Every level has a special significance, and contributors are asked to give at
the level they feel most comfortable. Outright gifts can be made in memory or
honor of loved ones. Each contribution has an immediate and lasting impact on
student learning, thus each contribution will be recognized by a permanent
bookplate in a library volume, commemorating a donor's participation in the
continued growth and support of the Hill Freeman Library and Spruill Learning
Center.
Gifts of Books or Media
Gifts of
books or media are encouraged with the understanding that the
library may choose to add or dispose of gifts at its discretion.
Gifts are evaluated using the same criteria for purchased
materials. In accordance with Internal Revenue Service rulings,
the library assumes no responsibility for the appraisal of gift
items nor can the library accept gift items with restricted
conditions. A gift acknowledgement letter confirming the number
of items given can be requested at the time the gift is
received. Please contact the Library Director for further
information at 770-720-5995 or

Giving Levels |

As we continue to enhance our
Library in the coming months, we invite you to help us make
this important resource - the heart of our campus - the best
it can be. One-time gifts at levels described here will
go a long way in making this happen.
Encyclopedia Level - $3,000
Long known as the "keeper of all knowledge," the
encyclopedia has been a standard for information
compilation for many years. Contributions made
at this level will be placed in an endowment that
will support the enhancement of the Library's
collection in perpetuity. Just as the
encyclopedia is the basis of knowledge, this
endowment builds the foundation for the collection
for years to come.
Electronic Resource
Level - $1,500
To provide students with the best possible access
to the Internet, on-line resources and cutting edge
software, significant annual investments are
required. Donors interested in supporting
electronic media and virtual information capability
can specify this area. In an "electronic
age," familiarity with electronic resources is
vitally important for graduates, whether they are
entering the work force or pursuing advanced degrees.
Journal Level - $300
Many periodicals and academic journals stretch the
budget as they cost several hundred dollars.
Donors participating at this level will provide
students and faculty with the most important and
up-to-date information available.
Novel Level
- $180
Some volumes are more expensive than those
supported by contributions at the Poet's Level.
The Novel Level allows the purchase of these more
expensive volumes.
Poet's Level
- $60
Participation at this level will allow the Hill
Freeman Library to purchase one volume for its
collection this year.
